Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S)Administered by Caltrans. Evaluation criteria seeks citations for accident data, traffic volumes, brief history of the neighborhood traffic issues. Safe Routes to Transit (SR2T)Administered by TALC/EBBC. Funding from Regional Measure 2. Part 10, Bicycle/Pedestrian Access Project Safety and Security asks "what safety or security problems exist in the project area?" Provide data to reinforce claims when possible (e.g. high rate of collisions, high-speed traffic, high volumes of traffic, etc.). Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA)Administered by Caltrans. Project screening criteria requires that project be consistent with an approved Bicycle Transportation Plan (BTP). To address safety, the BTP references collision data. Hazard Elimination Safety (HES) ProgramAdministered by Caltrans this federal safety program that provides funds for safety improvements on all public roads and highways. These funds serve to eliminate or reduce the number and/or severity of traffic accidents at locations selected for improvement. Application calls for completing a "Safety Index Calculation form" Office of Traffic Safety (OTS)The California OTS program calls for elements including "Performance Measures". These measures could be as follows:
Sales tax measuresAlameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. Recently passed measures in Marin, Napa, and Sonoma Counties. Funds earmarked for pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Contact the appropriate congestion management agency. Congestion Management & Air Quality (CMAQ) ImprovementsFunds are available for transportation projects that improve air quality. Eligible pedestrian and bicycle-related projects include transportation facilities (preliminary engineering, project planning studies and construction), safety and education programs, promotional programs. Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP)Federal block grant program for roads, bridges, transit capital and bicycle an pedestrian projects including bicycle and pedestrian facilities, activated traffic lights, pedestrian and bicycle trails. Transportation Enhancements Activities (TEA) ProgramOffers communities the opportunity to expand transportation choices. Activities such as safe bicycle and pedestrian facilities, scenic routes, beautification, and other investments increase opportunities for recreation, accessibility, and safety for everyone beyond traditional highway programs. Transportation for Clean Air (TFCA)Grant program funded by surcharge on motor vehicles registered in the Bay Area. Eligible project types include bicycle facility improvements such as bike lanes, racks, lockers; arterial management improvement to speed traffic flow on major arterials, smart growth. Traffic Engineering Technical Assistance Program (TETAP)MTC grant program for various traffic engineering studies aimed at improving arterial operations and safety and enhancing cooperation and collaboration across modes and between jurisdictions. |
